My sister-in-law passed this e-mail along to me yesterday, and I just have to share it with you:"I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following the simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace. Dr. Phil proclaims that, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished. So, I looked around my house to see all the things I've started and hadn't finished, and before the morning was over I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now."
So, finishing your binder definitely won't make you feel this "good", but at least you won't have the hangover :) There truly is wonderful sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in finishing something, but it is definitely not the answer to inner peace.
I really struggled when I started writing this blog as to how to incorporate the presence of God in my life with the practical information that I am going to be giving. I would love this information to reach more than just those who already have a relationship with God, and yet I truly do believe that there is not an answer to fear apart from God. For many people, fear and finances are so inextricably interwoven, that only the love of God and faith in Him are going to be able to bring them out of the horribly convoluted maze that they and their fear have created. The only answer to inner peace in our lives comes from our Creator and that is why God is such a central part of this blog on budgeting. We all need the "peace that passes understanding" when it comes to finances, and there is only one place to get that.
So, it won't bring you "inner peace", but can I just encourage you to finish sorting your pile of bills anyway. It isn't the complete answer to your financial situation, but it will give you such a great foundation for budgeting. Hopefully, you are well on your way in organizing your paperwork, but today I just want to say, "Keep going!" There is something wonderfully sweet and fulfilling about the finish line. Dare I say, maybe even sweeter than a package of Oreos?

That "pile"of Oreos looks very much like the pile of falling papers in my study! Tracy you are so right. I work for a company and the company is run on Scientology principals. The scientologist have a something called a 'cycle'. If you have something to do or if someone gives you something to do, it is called a 'cycle' and you have not completed your task until the cycle is taken care of and signed off. My Dad always used to say, "Don't start something if you do not plan to finish it". I guess the converse applies: If you start something, finish it!
Well the week-end has come and my three piles of papers have moved out of the cupboard to stare at me when I wake up tomorrow morning. They have moved ....I am winning:) I think I will take your presciption of 'Prozac, Irish Cream, and a dash of prayer! I'll keep the Oreos as a reward for the end. If you read in the 'Times about an old man who died with a smile on his face, eating too many Oreos, thats me just celebrating the success of a steel cabinette filing system. Good night and God Bless. I must quickly add my 2 cents worth to your blog. I have always been VERY involved in church activities, and some months ago I listened to 2 tapes "Enjoying the Journey in Freedom" and "A Promised-Land Mindset" which challenged me about spending my good time in activities which I should NOT have been invoved in. The trouble I was good at the church activities but I was being distracted from my read purpose and work and was missing the real blessing of making 'excess' so that I could bless the nations. The week I layed down the unnecessary, I found that I actually had time to do the necessary.
Your blog is timed so perfectly. Go for it girl, I'll be watching and reading! Lennart
